RALLY

The Malle Rally500

BY DARROCH WILLIAM

Scotland has always demanded something of the people who ride through it. The weather turns without warning, the roads climb before they ever think to flatten out, and the land itself seems to test whether you deserve to pass. It was in this spirit that the first ever Malle Rally500 began, a two day adventure into the wilds of Scotland, from the gates of Drummond Castle in Perthshire, north through glens that have swallowed armies and outlasted kings, into wilderness that has barely noticed the passing centuries, until the road finally gave way at Torridon, in the far reaches of the Highlands.

Our friend and photographer Darroch William was there to capture the magic of the Malle Rally500.

PS: In traditional Highland culture you need to sing for your supper, it’s become a tradition to pen a couple of lines in the crash helmet en rout to Loch Torridon to thank our hosts…

A RALLY POEM - 'DON’T TELL MUM!'

Your Mother told you, never play with fire, we were all warned when we were young.
Here we are, petrol between our legs, setting fire to it, just for the fun.

Your Mother told you, beware of men in leather and never talk to strangers. Here we are, a pack of lone wolves, together we take on the midges and the Rally dangers.

We are here for the twists, the turns, the mountain passes and the bends.Thank you for never listening to your Mothers, we’re out playing on the road with new friends.

Here we are, to get cold, wet and lost just for fun.
Long may we play on the road together… Don’t tell Mum!
